Ireland Day 9: Waterville to Glenbeigh | 46 Miles, 3,284 Feet Elevation | Will You Ferry Me?

We weren’t expecting a ferry ride today and we weren’t expecting dry weather either, but that’s exactly what we got.

That and Kerry Cliffs. 🌊

The morning brought very soupy fog and a couple of climbs we underestimated, but the fog moved out long enough to get some good views of the Kerry Cliffs which we were sure would not be visible due to the stormy forecast.

We started our ride this morning looking at views like this but we never got the forecasted rain. 🙏🏻

Tomorrow we head to the Dingle Peninsula to spend a couple days. Laundry is at the top of the list. Inside stays, low mileage, and no camp kitchen are really making this seem like a vacation. 😂

In nine days we’ve cycled up and down these peninsulas in Cork and Kerry, seen spectacular scenery, meet some wonderful people and learned more about Ireland (mostly that around every corner, she’ll surprise you with some weather). So grateful!

Now we have about three weeks to get to Derry to catch our train back to Dublin.

Towns we cycled through today between Waterville and Glenbeigh: Ballinskelligs, Knightstown, across Valencia Island and through Cahersiveen

    1. Awww I hope you get to ride it again soon. It really is beautiful here and it’s been nice taking time to actually enjoy places instead of trying to grind out miles. 😉

  1. hey tom and Debby. On your way out to dingle, you will go through the village of Anascaul where my maternal GR8 was born Dennis Barton. Stop in the south pole inn and ask about my cousin Joan Sayers.she is the sacred heart church secretary. Daughter Whitney was married in that church 12 years ago. Dennis Brake

    1. Great to hear from you!! We did indeed pass through that town and it’s lovely. In fact we took a pic of The South Pole and the statue of Tom Crean right across the street just yesterday so look for that in our next blog post. Unfortunately we’d already passed through town when we saw your message so we didn’t stop and let’s face it, when one is in hilly Ireland on bicycles, one doesn’t go backwards.🫶🏻🇮🇪😅

Anyway what a wonderful place to be married. It’s beautiful here and I know we have so much more to see. Thanks for checking in with us!
