Let’s start with the GOOD. Actually it was great and the best weather day for cycling yet. In 19 days today was one of two without rain. It was a clear, crisp day and a particularly good one to cycle Sky Loop Road.
And the TRAD? Tom and I finally stayed up late enough (past 9pm) to enjoy a traditional Irish music sesh and oh my gosh what have we been missing?
We are staying in another old-timey hotel and the musicians didn’t gather in the pub but instead a cozy sitting room. Kinda reminded me of the community room in a nursing home a little bit, in a good way.
Luke O’Malley sang a cover of Christie Moore’s song “The Voyage”. You can check it out in today’s video. I promise it’s worth a listen.
We could not have enjoyed the music more.
Also unforgettable were two older gentlemen, hotel guests I presume. They asked the trio if they could sing a tune a cappella. Permission granted. One sang Rose of Allendale and the other I’m not sure but both brought tears to my eyes.
Finally, as one who enjoys and appreciates music but knows nothing about it, there’s a difference between an Irish reel and an Irish jig. Maybe something to do with the beat or timing? Speak up if you know.
And the BAD. Tomorrow the rain and wind are returning. However, I’m pretty sure we can handle just about anything after what County Galway threw at us last Friday. The locals are still talking about the lashing we got that day.
Towns we cycled through today included Claddaghduff, Cleggan, Letterfrack and Tully Cross. And first thing tomorrow we cycle into County Mayo! 💚🇮🇪🚲
