We’re not sure where this day went but before we knew it, we were in Whitefish with just under 60 miles in and more hills tackled.

Although the day start chilly it was sunny! Yay!

Tobacco Road, the way Adventure Cycling mapped the Northern Tier route was lovely – some climbs to keep us warm and get our hearts and legs working right away, nice road surface and very little traffic. Just the way we like it.

Plus the bikepacker racers were on our route for a while. Tom chatted with a husband and wife, one from the U.K. and one from Denmark.

We also met Pierre, a French Canadian chemist who is bike touring around the area on an extended trip while his biologist wife finishes up work in the Rockies.

Before we knew it we were in Whitefish looking for The Downtowner where we will lay up a day to clean bikes, go to Mass, get new tires for my bike and get some supplies for the next couple days. And ice cream. Maybe twice.

We confirmed some disappointing news today, however, that Logan Pass is not open to through traffic at all, not even bike traffic. Not sure what that means for our next few days but it might cut out the trip to Canada and a little over a 100 miles of our trip. 🙁 We’ll see what the next couple days brings.

Not sure if anyone can resonate but sometimes it’s hard to take a day off when you’re building momentum and feeling good. Praise God we feel stronger every day, safe and well loved.

  1. I look forward to the posts/videos each day, but my favorite so far is definitely the Uncle Tom jig, dance, or whatever that was. So I’m offering $10 per jig/dance every time he does one in a video. Max at $50 (so just 5 different jigs). And of course the money will go to one of the two charities. How about it?

    1. Uncle Tom says “You’re on but you have to keep following our blog because we still have over 3,000 miles to go!” We love your challenge, Mike! Thank you for throwing it out there and thanks for joining us on our journey. 😊

  2. Yes, a lovely Genesis tune. Keep the Progressive music coming. Maybe it’s ok you’re not going into Canada. You have the benefit of no news, but we may be at war with Canada soon, trade war that is.

    1. We have absolutely no idea what is going on in the world. We only know that our hotel clerk said she was playing frisbee golf yesterday and a grizz and her cubs visited the course. 🙀

    1. We have devised a plan to make up the mileage by riding up one side of Logan Pass and then back down the same side while still enjoying the time off today!

  3. So glad you are eating popcorn on your journey! It is a super food!😀 Love all the music you have chosen for your vids! Hope you relaxed on your day off and didn’t decide to do a 15 mile hike or something. Love you!

    1. We ate a whole bag of kettle corn at the Farmers’ Market this evening. And we got a lot of chores done today – and Mass! No hiking but the day did also include ice cream.

    1. Thanks Cathy! We are back on the road tomorrow after taking a “day off” in Whitefish. We put some new tires on my bike and a front rack. Luckily our kids are overnighting front bags general delivery to Glacier tomorrow. This will be helpful in carrying extra water and food through the plains (after Cut Bank). This really is a remarkable place!

  4. Deb and Tom, so far so good! It’s fun to see your progress and follow your trip. Last time I was in Whitefish I turned north into Glacier and followed the road to the sun in the park. Beautiful, ride safe. Uncle Tom😎

    1. We are going to cycle that road day after tomorrow and will be sure to take pics. Apparently it’s still closed to vehicle traffic but bike traffic is ok until we reach the point that the snow has not yet been plowed. Hoping to see some wildlife- but not too close. Thanks for the follow!
